An Amigo plan does not start when you pay for it, and it does not start when you install it. Our terms are explicit: your service runs only once you install the eSIM and it connects to a network in a country your plan covers. Until your phone actually finds a signal at your destination, the clock has not started.
In practice that means you can buy a 30-day Europe plan at the Black Friday price in November, leave it sitting in your email, install it the night before you fly in April, and still get the full 30 days from the moment you land in Lisbon.
It also means there is no rush to install. Most travellers scan the QR code a day or two before the flight, early enough to fix any problem calmly and late enough that nothing is wasted.

Check device compatibility
Two things have to be true: the handset supports eSIM, and it is not locked to a network. Both take seconds to confirm.

If an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, the phone supports eSIM. No app, no settings menu.

Check the carrier lock
iPhone: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. "No SIM restrictions" means you are clear.
Android: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Network Operators. Turn off "Select automatically". If several networks appear, the phone is unlocked.
If the answer is no
A locked phone cannot use any travel eSIM, from us or anyone else. Your home network can usually unlock it free of charge once the contract is paid off, but it can take a few working days, which is another quiet argument for sorting this out in November rather than the night before a flight.

No. An Amigo plan starts counting down the first time your phone connects to a network in a country your plan covers, not when you pay and not when you install it. A plan bought in November is just as fresh for a trip in spring.

Do I need a code, and can I stack it with another offer?
Yes, there will be a code. Subscribers get it by email the day before the sale opens; it will work on local, regional and World plans with no minimum spend, and cannot be combined with another code on the same order.
Can I make calls and send texts on these plans?
Amigo eSIMs provide mobile data. Calls and texts go through data-based apps such as WhatsApp and FaceTime, which work normally. Your existing number stays active on your main SIM, so you keep your WhatsApp account and any two-factor codes that arrive there.
What if it does not work when I get there?
Amigo offers a 30-day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase, subject to the terms. Most connection problems come down to data roaming being switched off on the eSIM line, which the troubleshooting guide walks through in a couple of taps.
Can I use the hotspot to connect my laptop?
Yes. Tethering is included and draws from the same data allowance, so a 12 GB plan is 12 GB whether you use it on the phone or share it with a laptop or tablet.
